Why Shoot a Video Underwater in the Andaman Islands?

First of all, there are numerous diving spots in the Andamans, which are ideal for beginners as well as experts. So irrespective of your diving expertise, you can perform underwater sports here. And unlike photographs, where it has to be the perfect moment and several shots have to be taken, videos are less time-consuming and always better. Besides, the fish moving in the water while you dive or snorkel are perfect for shooting a video. Not to mention, the clear waters of the Andamans make them ideal for underwater videography.

In case you are planning to exchange rings underwater with your partner, the Andaman Islands are the best. Besides the clarity, the rich marine life will make the videos perfect. And since your close ones will not be around you to witness one of the biggest moments of your life, it is best you get a video shot for them to watch later.

Irrespective of your motive behind going underwater - whether it is to exchange rings or simply to perform watersports - recording videos is better than capturing photos. This is especially true underwater. Imagine everything is perfect including your pose and the fish in the backdrop. And suddenly, when the shutter is clicked, a sudden surge or wave results in a blurry picture. Now that is not a problem when you are shooting a video. In fact, a sudden wave in the video will provide an amazing effect.

Even better, you will have over 600 frames to choose from even after a 10-minute video. Now you decide, which sounds better - shooting a video or clicking photographs?

    {show_package package-id="50,14,16,30" title="Our Package"}

    Why Choose the Right Spot?

You might be wondering if all photographs would be the same underwater, why it is so important to choose a diving spot. For starters, each spot has different depths, which means some are great for beginners but others are only for professional divers.

Further, the variety of species found in these areas differs - while you may see more corals at one spot, you will be witnessing bigger fish in another. And all these factors will greatly contribute to your photographs. Thus, before you choose your diving spot for underwater photography, you should consider all these factors.

Moreover, it is more than just photography. It will be a great diving experience for you and whoever takes the dive with you. Think of it as an adventure and ask yourself - what would be the most ideal spot for an amazing diving experience?

    1. The Slope

At this diving spot, the ridges are interspersed all the time with corals. You can even spot echinoderms, like sea cucumbers, brittle stars, cushion stars, and sea stars. Other species that may make your pictures even more beautiful are cardinalfish, fusiliers, damselfish, crustaceans, and mollusks.

    1. Red Pillar

The clear waters of the Andaman Islands imply that not only are your pictures going to be great in terms of clarity but also amazing because of the variety of fishes that will enhance the background (maybe even the foreground). Some of the most vivid fish that can be spotted at this spot are angelfish, tigerfish, and clownfish.

    1. Inchkeith Wreck

Great barracuda sometimes tend to emerge from the shadows. You will notice a huge propellor at the stern, which stands tall in 60 feet of water. Getting your photoshoot here can be different from other diving spots on Havelock Island.

    1. Broken Ledge

The waters at this diving spot are home to marbled groupers, schooling longfin bannerfish, and turtles. You can even spot big fish such as yellowfin tunas, dogtooth, manta rays, marbled rays, and white-tip reef sharks. So if you choose this spot for diving, you can witness a large variety of fish besides getting exquisite shots from your underwater photographer.

    1. Jackson’s Bar

This diving spot is majorly populated by large pelagic fish. It is because of the strong currents at Jackson’s Bar as well as its location. In case it’s your first time diving, we recommend you consider another diving spot since strong currents can make it difficult for you.

    1. Dixon’s Pinnacle

Home to the famous white-tip reef sharks, Dixon’s Pinnacle has a wide variety of fish that the camera’s lens and your eyes would love. These include batfish, sting rays, lionfish, trevally, manta ray, red-toothed triggerfish, green turtles, tunas, shrimps, moray eels, titan triggerfish, and large Napoleon wrasse.

    1. White House Rock

It is one of the most sought-after diving spots on the islands, which is why you should book your adventure and photographer at the earliest. The wide array of fish will leave you stunned.

    1. Johnny’s Gorge

Do you love dolphins? Choose no other spot than Johnny’s Gorge. If you are fortunate, you will be greeted by some of these friendly creatures. Other than that, you’ll spot splendid schools of unicorn fish, queenfish, tuna, batfish, giant groupers, barracuda, Andaman sweetlips, snapper, trevally, and mackerel.

    1. Minerva Ledge

Some of the most common sea dwellers here include sharks. In fact, due to the marine life here, Minerva Ledge is highly recommended for scuba divers.

    1. Barracuda City

Imagine underwater photographs with sea turtles. You’ll find these close to the corals. Now think about how beautiful your experience of diving here will be!

Give a Shot to All Kinds of Shots!

Before you take a dive, talk to your photographer about the kind of photographs you are expecting. Stay open to the ideas they have in mind - they’re professionals for a reason. Unlike pictures on land, underwater photography has a narrow range of options. You cannot change your poses much or the background. Moreover, being attached to an oxygen cylinder further means you will have minimum movement.

Thus, ask about the kind of frames the photographer will be taking and the poses you can make underwater. They will not be able to guide you much during the shoot since you will only be talking in sign language. Also, consider getting all kinds of shots - close focus wide angle, 180-degree photos through a fisheye lens, and portrait shots.

You may think first that maybe a wide angle is not your thing or a portrait isn’t. But you cannot go back later to get the right shots (technically you can, but why do it the second time when you can do it during your first shot at it). So it’s best to ask your photographer to experiment with all kinds of shots. Later, once you get a copy of these photographs, you can then sort the ones you like.

When Are You Going For Your Pre-Wedding Shoot?

A pre-wedding photoshoot in the Andaman Islands sounds so dreamy and wonderful. Imagine actually being there and experiencing the beauty of the islands while spending time with your soulmate. Besides being busy with the shoot, you will be watching sunrises and sunsets together, performing water sports, and so much more. So when are you going to book your pre-wedding photoshoot?

  • One of the main reasons why people travel is to quench their thirst for adventure and fun. While you can go to any place in the world and hike every mountain, nothing takes away the charm of relaxing by a beach. And Andamans offers exactly that. Miles and miles of white sandy beaches and a brilliantly sustained marine ecosystem are what make the Andamans an unbeatable travel destination.

There is another great reason to visit the islands; if you take a Barren Island tour, you can be part of a rare experience of witnessing an active volcano. Barren Island in the Andamans, which is the only active volcano in South Asia, is one of the best-kept secrets of Andamans.

    {show_package package-id="50,14,16,30" title="Our Package"}

Why is Barren Island so famous?

The actual question is why isn’t Barren Island famous enough? After all, the uninhabited island is the only active volcano in the whole of South Asia. The volcano was reported to have first erupted in the 18 century and then almost 100 years later in the 2000s. Also, it is the only volcano along the series of volcanic islands from Myanmar to Sumatra.

Apart from the actual volcanic caldera, the island is famous for the marine ecosystem that thrives in its surrounding waters. There are some very famous diving sites close to Barren Island that are home to some of the most beautiful and unique structures covered in blankets of corals of the most unimaginable colours. You can take a Barren Island tour to explore the beautiful corals.

The colourful corals have piqued the curiosity of many divers as it is almost impossible to see such colours on an otherwise ashy and lava-spewing island. This also means that a variety of sea creatures thrive here. The water is also so clear that you’ll be surprised to see white-tip sharks swimming happily with a variety of colourful fishes.

Barren Island tour: how to reach the island

There are many tours to Barren Island that you can take to explore the volcanic island. Since Barren Island is located far away from the main islands of the Andamans, you will not find any regular passenger ferries going to the island. Taking a charter boat as a part of the Barren Island tour package is the best way to visit the island.

Port Blair and Havelock Island are the only two places from where you will get charter boats to Barren Island. You can either travel directly from Port Blair or first take a ferry to Havelock, explore the island and then take a charter boat to the volcanic island. It may take you 4-5 hours to reach Barren Island from Port Blair; from Havelock, you’ll reach Barren Island in 2-3 hours or slightly more.

Cost of taking a Barren Island tour

Since the journey to Barren Island is a bit long, most charter boats start early in the morning and include all meals on board the boat. Charter boats accommodate around 8 people at a time; you may have to pay anything between INR 130,000 to INR 150,000 to take a charter boat. If you are travelling in a group or manage to arrange one, you may have to pay around INR 20,000 per person for the entire trip to and from Barren Island. Apart from meals and beverages, the luxurious trip covers a fishing trip, a snorkelling trip, and even a scuba diving trip (if discussed in advance). It also includes guides who will help you with all the activities.

Not everybody can travel to Barren Island. You’d have to first get a tourist permit from the authorities before taking the charter boat. Indian nationals have to pay around INR 1000 for the permit while foreign nationals have to pay INR 3500. The agency organising your Barren Island tour should be able to help you with the permit.

Top things to do in Barren Island

If you are looking to go for a vacation, it doesn’t get better than Andaman and Nicobar Island. Add Barren Island to your itinerary, and you’ll have one of the best vacations of your lifetime. There are so many things that you can do on a Barren Island tour. Here is a short list:

    1. Game fishing: Many people prefer going to Barren Island for game fishing. The water surrounding the island boast of a variety of fishes that attract avid fishers from across the world. You can catch marlins, Tunas, and even Dorado fish. You don’t even have to worry about waiting the entire day to be able to fish as your guide will be able to direct you to the best fishing spots.
    2. Snorkelling: Snorkelling is another activity that is very famous on Barren Island. The volcanic island is famous for its rich marine life. It would be a loss for you not to explore it if you make it that far to the remote island. The best part is that you don’t have to know how to swim to snorkel. The charter boats usually come with snorkelling gear and an instructor, so you’d be able to easily explore the underwater.
    3. Scuba diving: Any trip in the Andamans is incomplete without scuba diving, especially, Barren Island. The island is a magnet for scuba divers from across the world. However, only advanced-level scuba divers can dive at Barren Island. You’ll be guided by an instructor even if you are an experienced diver yourself. There are many diving sites near Barren Island including Purple Haze, Barren Garden, and Manta Rays. If you want to explore the wonderful world of beautiful corals, then you should not miss diving near Barren Island.

Best time to take a Barren Island tour

The best time to take a Barren Island tour is between November to February. This is because the weather in the Andamans is pleasant and beautiful at this time. Also, there are fewer chances of a storm or heavy rain around this time. Andamans being a tropical region, the weather also gets very hot and humid in the summers. Some charter boats do take tourists around March; however, your trip may be cancelled anytime if there is any indication of bad weather.
